Adler Display Depicts Baltimore’s Baseball History,

From the Babe to Cal to the 50th Anniversary Orioles

BALTIMORE, July 20, 2004 – From the Babe to Cal to the 50th anniversary of the Orioles, Adler Display has told – and is still telling – the story of Baltimore baseball in displays seen by millions of fans and visitors to attractions in and around Baltimore.

The latest effort from Adler Display (www.adlerdisplay.com) is now rounding the bases in the Baltimore area, celebrating the Orioles’ 50-year history as its hometown team.  The traveling exhibit, sponsored by The Baltimore Sun and presented by Nissan®, presents many of the most memorable photos and front pages from The Sun to document the team’s history.

“It’s interesting to note that the same exhibit once featured Baltimore’s own Babe Ruth,” said Ron Adler, president of the family-owned display company started by his father in 1937, just two years after the Babe retired.

“Now we’ve redone it with exciting new photos and other memorabilia to highlight the Orioles’ great half century of history here, including Cal Ripken’s incredible consecutive game streak, World Series championships, and the move of our beloved Birds from their first home at Memorial Stadium to Camden Yards in 1992.  It’s a great display of Baltimore baseball history,” Adler said.  “As a lifelong fan of the Orioles, I get chills every time I see it.”

Opening Day for the traveling display was in May at the Arundel Mills Mall. Its second base was, appropriately, at Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen.  In early July the display has been on view at Harborplace in the Inner Harbor, where Adler also created all displays and signage for the new Inner Harbor Baltimore Visitor Center.  Other stops around the bases include the White Marsh Mall (July 16-25), Towson Town Center (July 27-August 8), Owings Mills Mall (August 10-15), Mondawmin Mall (August 17-22), and finally The Mall in Columbia (August 24-September 6).

“Some displays are just more fun to create than others,” Ron Adler said, “and to be frank, this one was a dream come true.  Adler Display had been honored in doing the Babe Ruth traveling display, showing the Babe from his early days in Baltimore, to joining the then minor league Baltimore Orioles at the age of 19 where he earned his nickname as the team’s youngest player, to his glory days as baseball’s Sultan of Swat.  And we did another display on our beloved Cal Ripken, born locally in Havre De Grace, depicting his 2,131 ‘Iron Man’ streak, which is on view at the Babe Ruth Birthplace and Museum just blocks from Camden Yards and the Inner Harbor.

“But having Adler Display honored by creating a display of the 50 years of the Orioles,” he mused, “now that was the best!”
