Don’t Forget to Live Tweet at Your Next Event

Jul 28, 2016 | Articles

Live-tweeting on Twitter is the main network for information at events and trade shows.  Going into an event with a solid Twitter and social media strategy, more than likely will increase your visibility and help make great business connections.

Here is what live-tweeting can do for you:

What is live-tweeting?
Posting continuous comments and updates on Twitter while the event is taking place.

Use the event hashtag
What is a hashtag?  It is a word or phrase following a pound sign with no spacing.  Hashtags act as a hyperlink connecting Twitter users to one newsfeed for that specific topic.  The hashtag newsfeed is a constant flood of live and relevant information, directing attendees to specific happenings or exhibitors.  While live-tweeting, it is important to use the event hashtag on every tweet.   This way you are seen by attendees and attracting the right crowd.

Create a buzz
With live-tweeting you can generate buzz about a contest taking place, or a new giveaway!  This will create a constant flow of traffic to your trade show booth or event.  Attendees search the hashtag for contests, gifts, and free food… so if you have it, flaunt it!

Follow your guests
After a guest leaves your event or exhibit booth, send a ‘thank you’ tweet for stopping by using their twitter handle.  In doing so, you are appreciating their time, and more than likely they will follow back, which will build your followers.  Live-tweeting at guests will show other followers how in-demand you are.

Connect with influencers
A great way to build relationships with industry influencers is by live-tweeting their speeches and presentations.   Make sure to have their correct Twitter handle, and any relevant hashtag.  Tweet quotes, snippets, and pictures from their appearance.  This provides relevant information to not only people at the event, but also people who could not attend.  Live-tweeting influencers make them aware of you and your brand, and hopefully they will follow you back.

Share helpful event tips and news
Nobody wants to hear you talk about yourself the whole time.   Please do not flood the feed with only information about your booth.  Establish your company as an information outlet by sharing helpful event tips and news.  Such as, where the Wi-Fi hotspots are, what is being served for lunch, who is presenting next, where the hottest after-party is, etc.  These are the type of tweets that will likely be retweeted and shared, making your twitter visible to many, many more people.
