Project of the Month: Fort Frederick State Park Visitor Center

Nov 11, 2022 | Articles, Project of the Month

Adler Display worked with the Maryland Park Service to create displays at the Fort Frederick State Park Visitor Center.

Fort Frederick was built in 1756 and served as Maryland’s frontier defense during the French and Indian War. In total, it served in three American conflicts and as a Civilian Conservation Corps camp in the 1930s.

Today, Fort Frederick State Park is a public recreation and historic preservation area on the Potomac River surrounding the restored Fort Frederick. The state park lies south of the town of Big Pool, Maryland, and offers a variety of outdoor activities. It is now also home to a newly renovated Visitor Center.

Adler Display created a variety of displays to help tell the story of the historic Fort. Mainly using interpretive graphic panels and a plethora of artifacts, the displays offer rich history and interesting facts. Visitors are greeted by a welcome wall with an overhead picture of the Fort. Visitors can find pictures and information about notable figures, including Maryland officers. Graphics include a map of how the Fort’s space was used, including its gate, well, guardhouse, and different defenses. The flag flown in the 1750s is pictured, along with the fort’s dimensions. Adler Display worked closely with the Maryland State Park to organize a great amount of information, so visitors have a welcoming and informative experience!
