Project of the Month: Maryland Milestones

Sep 2, 2017 | Project of the Month

Anacostia Heritage Trail Area, located in Hyattsville, Maryland, opened its new visitor center earlier this summer in the Pyramid Arts Center.

The center has a variety of functions, including housing studios, meeting and workshop spaces, and a gallery for artists. Adler Display was tasked with using the multi-functional space to highlight the Heritage Area and the stories of its communities. Challenges included designing the visitor center in a space that is tall, but not deep or wide, and coming up with a creative way to hide a sump pump.

Adler Display’s design team used materials to match the existing space, while incorporating many beautiful images of the region. The design includes a graphic wall mural that features standoff graphics with images of available activities in the area.  (Design renderings are shown on the center’s website: anacostiatrails.org/heritage-center.) A free-standing display shows a trail map, while a wall-mounted brochure rack holds a digital screen with information on local amenities.

A second phase that includes a history wall and display with antique artifacts, is planned for January 2018.
