Project of the Month: St. Joseph’s Preparatory School Villiger Hall Renovation

Aug 16, 2023 | Articles, Project of the Month

This month, we are proud to share our successful collaboration with St. Joseph’s Prep, JMT Architecture, and Halyard.

Project Details:

The project’s primary goal was to create a cohesive branding strategy that reflects the school’s Jesuit values while recognizing the dedication, accomplishments, and contributions of alumni, students, and donors.

Working hand-in-hand, JMT Architecture entrusted Adler Display with the task of enhancing the conceptual design of the renovations. 3D color renderings and graphical representations were diligently curated, making the envisioned space a tangible reality. Additional collaborations with St. Joseph’s Preparatory School management, JMT Architecture, and Halyard’s project management team ensured the work mirrored the institution’s values and aesthetic aspirations.

Theme:

The AMDG theme became the cornerstone of the project. The acronym originates from the Latin phrase, “Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam,” translating to “For the greater glory of God.” The school also has its representation of these letters. “A” symbolizes athletics, “M” missions, “D” distinction, and “G” generational impact, which find their place in a striking wallcovering collage coupled with acrylic recognition panels. This dual representation emphasizes the school’s Jesuit ethos.

The Hall of Excellence also showcases the current year’s class of inductees, detailing their contributions and accomplishments. In addition, a heartwarming memorial commemorates alums who sacrificed their lives for liberty and freedom, tracing back to the Civil War era.

Together we helped bring the following to life:

  • Entrance & Over Theater Lobby Signage
While an initial banner graphic was suggested, a more impactful and dimensional design was conceptualized. The result is a custom laminated sign measuring 10’ wide x 15 ½” h. Its front proudly displays the school seal, engraved and painted in an accent hue, with gracefully mounted 1” thick dimensional letters.
  • Donor Recognition
Rooms and spaces are named after primary donors. The signage seamlessly integrates with the hall’s interior, acknowledging and thanking the generosity of patrons.
  • ADA Room Signs
With full adherence to the American Disabilities Act, these signs are strategically placed for ease of access and visibility.
  • Themed Graphics
A bespoke mural adorns the entrance lobby, picturing the Philadelphia skyline and emphasizing the school’s Jesuit ethos. The AMDG theme is represented in dimensional letters and features the Latin phrase, “Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam.”

Challenges Overcome:

The timeline was tight once the final designs were approved, with each project phase fabricated and installed in just several weeks. Additionally, the unique architecture of the wall for the entrance theater sign posed a challenge, necessitating precision in framing to ensure a perfect fit.

In collaboration with esteemed partners, Adler Display has again proven its prowess in capturing and displaying institutional values, merging aesthetics with profound significance. The revitalized Villigier Hall is a testament to this dedication, and we look forward to additional projects to be completed before January 2024.
